NONON

A 5,000-piece NFT collection with a living, fully on-chain friendship card.

NONON pairs 5,000 hand-crafted characters with the Friend Card — a free, soulbound, fully on-chain token that levels up as nonon move between wallets, turning trading into a collectathon and every holder into a friend.

The brief

NONON set out to make an NFT collection that rewards participation rather than just ownership: an experiment in living blockchain art, where the act of collecting and trading builds a visible, on-chain record of friendship.

The collection features 5,000 hand-crafted characters by the artist three, accompanied by the Friend Card — a second, fully on-chain artwork that changes over time.

The Friend Card

The first time a wallet receives a nonon, it is automatically issued a free Friend Card. The card is soulbound — locked to that wallet — and limited to one per holder.

Every unique nonon that enters a wallet earns a point, and another when it leaves, so trading on the secondary market is part of the game. As points accumulate the card climbs through eight levels, from ANGELS to SERAPHIM, with its artwork and metadata updating at each step.

Holders can also inscribe an uncensored message of up to 256 characters — nonon.txt — directly onto their card. The top point holders and their messages are shown on the leaderboard at nonon.house.

Engineering

The Friend Card artwork is assembled entirely on-chain. SVG components for the base design and each level are stored immutably with SSTORE2, and tokenURI composes the final image and metadata as Base64 at read time — no IPFS, no image hosting.

The NONON collection’s transfer hook mints Friend Cards automatically and records each token movement, using gas-efficient bitmaps to track which nonon every wallet has sent and received. The card implements ERC-5192 for soulbound locking and ERC-4906 so marketplaces refresh its artwork as it levels up.

Contracts are built on ERC-721A, Solady and OpenZeppelin, developed with Foundry and checked with Slither in CI. A companion swap contract lets holders trade nonon directly for one another, and the nonon.house web app — built with SvelteKit — brings the card, gallery, leaderboard and swaps together.

World building

Beyond the contracts, mini labo produced the Nonon Book — a guide to the lore and the rules of the friendship system — and ran community events such as Five Days of Nonon, a giveaway whose winners were drawn transparently using the NIST Randomness Beacon.

N.I.I.T.

N.I.I.T. is a social companion to the NONON world: an invite-only, role-play taskforce whose personnel submit, vote on and archive relics and echoes together.

Personnel submit images as relics, and the community votes to affirm or denounce each one. Relics that pass are published one at a time, numbered, annotated and added to a public gallery, alongside echoes — memorable messages the community has voted to preserve. Members can also appraise relics and one another on four axes — Heaven, Hell, Sweet and Salt — earning points that rank them on the personnel leaderboard.

Built as a Discord bot paired with a SvelteKit web app, backed by Supabase and deployed on Fly.io, N.I.I.T. keeps the community’s activity in Discord while giving its archive a permanent home on the web.
